Nalini Velayudhan, DO

Dr. Nalini Velayudhan has lived all over the world, which helps her understand people from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs. She sees the importance of holding space for caring and healing the whole person, including the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of an individual. Dr. Nalini has an undergraduate education in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine, and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa. She completed her residency in Family Medicine through Michigan State University at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Michigan. Dr. Nalini is board-certified in Family Medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. She also pursued fellowship training in Addiction Medicine at St. John Hospital in Brighton, Michigan.

After completing training in the Midwest, Dr. Nalini practiced as a family physician at Boulder Medical Clinic in Boulder City, Nevada. With sights set on exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Dr. Nalini and her family relocated to Oregon in 2021 to continue the practice of medicine. In Oregon, she dedicated time to certifying as a Narrative Medicine facilitator through Oregon Health Sciences University, followed by certification in the Foundation in Narrative-Based Medicine at the University of Toronto. She hopes to continue to practice medicine with a narrative medicine lens, which has allowed her to re-humanize medicine. She believes practicing with narrative competence makes medicine not just a scientific pursuit but an artful one as well. She also continued her training in meditative practices, currently pursuing a certification as a mindful mentor. She hopes this will help her connect with patients and colleagues in a more profound and meaningful way.

She has also studied Ayurveda, taught by Dr. Vasant Lad, and more recently completed a Foundation Certificate in Ayurveda with Saraswati Institute of Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy in Portland, Oregon. The principles of the ancient medical science of Ayurveda align with the more modern core osteopathic principles she learned in medical school. Bridging these ancient teachings with modern medicine is something she weaves into her practice and care of patients.

Giving back and serving the community through various philanthropies has allowed her to embody the value of service and compassion. She has enjoyed giving back to the profession by precepting medical students in their family medicine rotations. She currently volunteers at Borland Free Clinic to provide care for the underserved in her community.

Dr. Nalini stays active hiking with her husband and two sons, taking long walks with her dog, doing barre3 workouts, yoga, and running. Dr. Nalini practices meditation to stay grounded in self-compassion. As an avid reader and traveler, she seeks adventures and learning from books and journeys taken with her family.

Dr. Nalini Velayudhan discloses she has no relevant financial relationships with any organization producing, marketing, reselling, or distributing healthcare goods or services consumed by or used on patients relative to the content of this presentation.
