Melissa Belec, DO, MPH
Dr. Melissa Belec, DO, MPH, DACD, is a board-certified Diabetologist and Assistant Professor at Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine (TUCOM) in Vallejo, California. Dr. Belec received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Touro University California College of Education and Health Sciences, which is now known as TUCOM. She completed her fellowship in Diabetology at TUCOM and her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Minnesota North Memorial in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Belec is board-certified in Diabetology by the American College of Diabetology and in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.
Dr. Belec's areas of interest in diabetes care include pregnancy, public health, and global health. She has current ongoing research and projects related to pediatric diabetes prevention and global health partnerships in Ecuador and Tanzania. Dr. Belec's current clinical practice is at the La Clinica Solano County sites. She has also served on the American College of Diabetology Board in the past and has been on the standard-setting committee for the ACD as well. She received the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship Award in 2015 for her community service project, which targeted underserved communities by providing nutrition education and vegetables to schools and community events. She also helped facilitate group meals in transitional housing by cooking healthy meals together with the residents.
In her free time, Dr. Belec enjoys rock climbing, kayaking, backpacking, and community gardens.
