John Kowalczyk, DO

Dr. John Kowaczyk has resided in Southern California since he first began practicing urology in 1996. He is the founder of the Urology Group of Southern California, which first opened in 2001 and continues to serve patients in downtown Los Angeles, Glendale, and Burbank. Dr. Kowalczyk received his medical training through Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in General Surgery at Chicago Osteopathic Hospital. He then completed a residency in Urologic Surgery at Midwestern University: Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical and Trauma Center in Olympia Fields, Illinois. Dr. Kowalczyk completed his fellowship in Uroprosthetics at Indiana University Medical Center: Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Kowalczyk is board-certified in Urology by the American Board of Osteopathic Surgeons. He is also board-certified as a Medical Examiner by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners.

Dr. Kowalczyk is a past president of the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California and a California delegate to the American Osteopathic Association House of Delegates. Additionally, he is an expert reviewer for the Osteopathic Medical Board of California. He sits on the board of the Cooperative Association of Physicians – Mutual Protection Trust (CAP-MPT), which is a well-known California malpractice insurance carrier. He is also on the board of the Physician's Aid Association and is on the Medical Executive Committee of Good Samaritan Hospital.

Dr. Kowalczyk has received many awards, including the David M. Shaw Physician of the Year Award at Good Samaritan Hospital and the Physician Educator of the Year Award for Downey Regional Medical Center's Family Practice Residency Program. He is a researcher and continues to publish, which includes many journal articles and a textbook chapter. His professional expertise focuses on prostate cancer, male impotence, incontinence and urodynamics, gender dysphoria, and gender confirmation surgery.

Dr. Kowalczyk's passions include politics, world travel, shark diving, and an occasional fine cigar.
