Hunter Spencer, DO

Dr. Hunter Spencer practices at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. He is an internal medicine and addiction medicine physician. At OHSU, he conducts research and provides clinical care focused on HIV, Hepatitis C, and disparities in access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Dr. Spencer earned his medical degree from Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Yakima, Washington. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at OHSU, graduating with a distinction in Global Health. He recently obtained a master's degree in Clinical Research at OHSU. Dr. Spencer is board-certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine and in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also certified as an HIV specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine.

Dr. Spencer's work is driven by a deep interest in health equity and a commitment to supporting patients through both their challenges and triumphs. Dr. Spencer gained recognition for his role in developing and implementing a peer-assisted telemedicine program for the treatment of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) in Oregon. The state had been identified as having among the highest rates of HCV infection and related mortality in the country. In response, a collaborative effort involving researchers, community leaders, and officials from the Oregon Health Authority led to the launch of the Oregon Model. Central to this initiative is PATHS (Peer-Assisted Telemedicine for Hepatitis C and Syphilis), a program designed to broaden access to direct-acting antiviral therapies and address systemic barriers to care.

In his free time, Dr. Spencer enjoys exploring Oregon's diverse landscapes, including its beaches, forests, mountains, and deserts, with his wife and their adventurous Chihuahua, Toby.

Dr. Hunter Spencer discloses he has no relevant financial relationships with any organization producing, marketing, reselling, or distributing healthcare goods or services consumed by or used on patients relative to the content of this presentation.
