LaShaunda Poindexter Massey, PhD


Dr. Lashaunda P. Massey is a licensed Clinical Psychologist who has serviced clients in private practice for 13 years. She provides clinical services to children, adults, and families faced with the most challenging disorders and life circumstances.  Her work specializes in childhood clinical issues, abuse/neglect, and depression/anxiety disorders. She is also a Clinical Psychologist for Baptist Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine (BUCOM) in Memphis, Tennessee, where she provides individual clinical therapy services for medical students, including interventions relative to personal development. In addition, she designs curriculum enhancement programming that focuses on mental wellness and personal and professional development. She is also a member of the University Behavioral Intervention Team and Student Progress Committee.

Dr. Massey worked diligently to prepare for success in this professional career.  After graduating valedictorian from high school in 1991, Dr. Massey obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She graduated with honors from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois with a Master of Arts in Psychology and then with her Doctor of Philosophy. Dr. Massey completed her doctoral internship through the University of Tennessee Psychology Consortium and was licensed as a Clinical Psychologist by the state of Tennessee in 2001. Through her private practice, Dr. Massey has provided internships for college students aspiring to enter the field of psychology.

Dr. Massey is on the Board of Directors and is part of the Executive Committee for Special Olympics Tennessee. She is also on the Board of Directors for the Special Olympics of Greater Memphis. Dr. Massey received the Midsouth Chapter Woman of Impact Award from the American Heart Association in January of 2022. In 2017, she received the Doctor of the Year Award from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women-Memphis Chapter and received the Tri-State Defender Woman of Excellence Award.

Dr. Massey discloses that she has no relevant financial relationships with any organization producing, marketing, reselling, or distributing healthcare goods or services consumed by or used on patients relative to the content of this presentation.
