Learning Objectives:
•    Define and discuss diagnostic criteria for migraine headaches.
•    Explain the pathophysiology including the etiology, epidemiology, and risk factors of migraine headaches.
•    Discuss the clinical manifestations of migraine headaches
•    Identify and rule out red flags on HPI and physical exam
•    Describe and administer the osteopathic manipulative treatment approach to the management of migraine headaches and discuss the treatment goals of the various types of techniques.
•    Identify measures to prevent occurrence and recurrence of migraine headaches.

Grievance Policy for AOA Credit:
All grievances should be in writing and should specify the nature of the grievance.  Initially, all grievances should be directed to MAOPS Executive Director, who will then forward said grievance to the Education & Convention Committee.  All grievances will receive an initial response in writing within 30 days of receipt.  If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, they can submit a complaint in writing to the Bureau of Osteopathic Education of the AOA at 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, IL 60611.

Dr. Anna Esparham is board certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Medical Specialties, in Integrative Medicine by the American Board of Physician Specialties, and in Medical Acupuncture by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture. She is also certified in Clinical Hypnosis and Aromatherapy. Dr. Esparham is starting her fellowship in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at A.T. Still University – Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) in Kirksville, Missouri. Dr. Esparham is the physician owner of Empowered Wellness in Kirksville, Missouri. She is also an Associate Professor and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She recently left her position as the Medical Director at the Headache Treatment Center for Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She built the first-of-its-kind Headache Treatment Center as the Medical Director and Associate Professor at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dr. Esparham received her Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Kansas, Kansas City, Kansas, in 2009. She completed her residency in pediatrics in 2012 and her fellowship in Integrative Medicine in 2013, both at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She is also the Founder of Health Is PowHer's Podcast to support women in need of deep healing. Dr. Esparham received the Faculty Innovation Award in 2022, the Clinical Excellence Award in 2020, and the Rising Star Award in 2018 from the Division of Neurology at Children's Mercy Hospital.

Dr. Esparham is married and has a son. She also has some dogs and chickens. She enjoys homesteading, hiking, reading, painting by numbers, podcasting, and journaling in her free time. An interesting tidbit about Dr. Esparham is after college, she wanted to be a wildlife biologist, but no jobs were available. Her goal in life is to build a wildlife refuge one day.

Mark Hanson DO's Profile

Mark Hanson DO Related Seminars and Products


Mark Hanson, DO, is currently a PGY-II in the Still OPTI/NRMC ONMM residency program. He grew up in Walnut Creek, CA. He earned his undergrad degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UC Davis, where he, at one point, took and passed a class on how to drive tractors. He then went on to work in the quality control labs for various wineries for the next six years, and then at a quality assurance lab for a glass bottle distributor for another four years. He then attended ICOM in 2020 and graduated in 2024 with a Doctor of Osteopathy degree and is now working towards a career focusing on osteopathic manual medicine. In his free time, his interests lie in reading (especially Steinbeck), sensory evaluation, cooking, the performing arts, and crossword puzzles.

Karen Snider, DO, FAAO, FNAOME, is a professor at A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM). Dr. Snider is board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. She earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and she completed her residency at Northeast Regional Medical Center. Dr. Snider has earned fellowship awards from the American Academy of Osteopathy and the National Academy of Osteopathic Medical Educators.
