The Osteopathic Approach workshop series focuses on applying osteopathic principles in the clinical management of mechanical low back pain.
Learning Objectives:
This activity is designed to improve physician competence. Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Describe the epidemiology and clinical impact of low back pain (LBP) to support informed clinical decision-making.
• Perform a focused, evidence-based history and physical examination for patients presenting with LBP.
• Select and implement appropriate pharmacologic, nonpharmacologic, and osteopathic treatment options, including osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), for the management of LBP.
• Demonstrate the application of OMT techniques for patients with LBP in a supervised educational setting.
• Evaluate potential complications, prognosis, and preventive strategies to optimize patient outcomes related to LBP.
Accreditation Statement:
The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 2 AOA Category 1-A CME credit(s) and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation.

Grievance Policy for AOA Credit:
All grievances should be in writing and should specify the nature of the grievance. Initially, all grievances should be directed to MAOPS Executive Director, who will then forward said grievance to the Education & Convention Committee. All grievances will receive an initial response in writing within 30 days of receipt. If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, they can submit a complaint in writing to the Bureau of Osteopathic Education of the AOA at 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, IL 60611.
Jennifer Satar, DO, is a third-year Neuromusculoskeletal medicine resident at Still Opti Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri. She was introduced to osteopathy before medical school by Dr. Kendall Wilson, a prior Neuromusculoskeletal specialist. She gained her osteopathic medical degree at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Previously, she completed most of a family medicine internship in Roanoke, VA. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a Biotechnology emphasis at Fairmont State University. In her spare time, she spends time with her toddler, Troy Andrew. She enjoys hiking, fishing, yoga, singing in her local churches, and bible studies.

Billy Strait, DO, is an associate professor at A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) and serves as the OMM fellows director. Dr. Strait is board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine & Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine from ATSU-KCOM, and he completed residency at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
