Learning Objectives:
1) Learners will understand the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in the management of ASD and will be able to identify roles for various healthcare professionals, including when and how to refer patients for additional services
2) Learners will gain knowledge on how to effectively communicate with and support families of individuals with ASD, including providing resources, information about rights, and strategies for advocacy in educational and community settings
3) Learners will be able to summarize various evidence-based interventions for treating ASD, including behavioral therapies, medication options, and other supportive therapies tailored to individual patient needs
4) Learners will gain proficiency in the use of validated screening tools for early detection of ASD, such as the M-CHAT and SCQ, and will understand the appropriate age ranges and settings for their administration
5) Learners will be able to articulate the current diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder as outlined in the DSM-5, including the various presentations and severity levels
6) Learners will be able to identify early signs and symptoms of ASD in children and adolescents, including social communication and behavioral indicators that warrant further evaluation
7) Learners will be able to recognize patients’ social developmental concerns earlier, which will improve the screening, referral, and diagnostic process
8) Learners will support patients and their families in their journey, navigating autism diagnosis and treatment
