Hospital Management of Congestive Heart Failure


Learning Objectives:
• Learners will analyze the underlying mechanisms and differentiate between types of heart failure, such as heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), and heart failure with midrange ejection fraction (HFmrEF).
• Learners will identify and review the latest guidelines from organizations like the American College of Cardiology.
• Learners will assess the use of diagnostic tools such as echocardiography, biomarkers (BNP, NT-proBNP), and other imaging modalities and emphasize the importance of regular monitoring and reassessment of ejection fraction and other clinical parameters.
• Learners will prioritize the role of lifestyle changes, including dietary modifications, exercise, weight management, and smoking cessation, in managing heart failure symptoms and improving quality of life.
• Learners will assess and review the indications for and benefits of devices like implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.
• Learners will emphasize the importance of a team-based approach involving cardiologists, primary care providers, nurses, and other specialists.
