Sepsis and Septic Shock in 2025


Learning Objectives:
• Learners will be able to identify and describe the key clinical signs and symptoms of sepsis, including fever, tachycardia, hypotension, altered mental status, and other relevant indicators, to facilitate early diagnosis and intervention.
• Learners will gain insight into the underlying mechanisms and pathophysiological processes of sepsis, including the role of the immune response, systemic inflammation, and organ dysfunction, to enhance their understanding of the condition.
• Learners will be able to summarize and apply the most recent evidence-based guidelines for the diagnosis and management of sepsis, including recommendations for early goal-directed therapy, fluid resuscitation, and antibiotic administration.
• Learners will be equipped to utilize effective diagnostic tools and monitoring strategies for patients with suspected sepsis, including laboratory tests, imaging studies, and clinical scoring systems to assess severity.
• Learners will be able to outline appropriate treatment protocols for managing sepsis, including the use of intravenous fluids, vasopressors, broad-spectrum antibiotics, and adjunctive therapies to improve patient outcomes.
• Learners will develop strategies for communicating with patients and their families about the nature of sepsis, treatment plans, and expected outcomes, as well as enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration among healthcare providers in managing sepsis.
